GrowthClimate Parenting: Series Three - Part Seven

The Role of Parents During the LAUNCHING STAGE [Ages 18 & Up]

Hosts: Kenneth H. Patey, Sharon Patey
Dealing with ADULT CHILDREN Living at Home with Their Parents.
You thought parenting ended when the kids went off to college.  Many of you will discover that “once a parent always a parent!”  Parenting at this phase should take on an entirely different form.  The parent-child relationship becomes an ADULT TO ADULT relationship.  It is sometime hard to cut the old apron strings but once you do, your adult children become a real joy in your life.  However, you must see them as adults, treat them as adults, and stay out of their business—unless you have been invited in.  This launching stage can be a challenge because YOU are in transition.  And transitions are always unnerving.  You are learning to take on a role you have never played before.  Learn how to be a mentor in such a way that your adult to adult relationship is not undermined by ignorance on your part.
